WASHINGTON, DC — An FBI informant was among the thousands of people who marched on the U.S. Capitol and stormed the building on Jan. 6, according to a New York Times report, citing confidential records the publication obtained.
The informant, whose name was not revealed, attended the march with members of a Midwest chapter of the far-right group Proud Boys, the Times reported.
Following the storming of the Capitol, the informant reportedly told his handler that members of the Proud Boys had not pre-planned the attack; instead, they were caught up in the herd mentality of the mob.
