ACROSS AMERICA— A treacherous storm pummeled the Northeast on Tuesday night, with strong rain and flooding that knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people. The storm leaves behind washed out roads and fallen trees and power lines. This all comes a day after tornadoes battered parts of the South and blizzards overtook the Midwest and Northwest.

In New Jersey, Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency after many streets and roads were flooded. It's reported that rivers were rising in some areas that saw up to 3 inches of rainfall.

Long Island seemed to get the brunt of the storm in New York, as areas far out east such as the Freeport and the Hamptons reported major flooding, according to the National Weather Service. Two-thousand migrants living in a tent complex in New York City were ordered by city officials to evacuate over fears it would collapse due to high winds.

Some areas in Pennsylvania got more than 4 inches of rain, with other neighboring areas seeing almost just as much.

Meanwhile in New England, there was a mandatory evacuation ordered for a few areas along the Yantic River, after there was a dam breach in Bozrah, Connecticut. About 5,000 homes and businesses were left without power after a local power company along the river shutdown.
