Freaky 20-Inch Fingernails Top Odd Guinness World Records

The 2018 Guinness Book is full of strange-but-true world records. A Michigan cat's tail is almost as long as a Houston woman's fingernails.

The Guinness World Records has released its 2018 book, and it’s chock-full of records that exist for no apparent reason other than that someone decided to set them. A prime example is the Houston woman whose fingernails are more than 20 inches long. Ayanna Williams said she has been growing her nails for about 24 years.

People kept egging Williams on after she grew her nails to 3 inches, and she took the bait. They’re cumbersome, though, and she can’t complete all the tasks she once could, like pulling up her britches, according to a Guinness video of the new record-holders on YouTube. It takes about a week to paint and manicure them, she said,

Williams’ nails aren’t the only thing in the Guinness Book of World Records that you’ll have to see to believe.

Some other choice bits from the 2018 Guinness World Book of Records:

A cat in Ferndale, Michigan, has a tail that is nearly as long as Williams’ fingernails. The silver Maine coon cat, named Cygnus, claims the record for the longest tail on a domestic cat with a 17-½-inch appendage that looks like a fall a woman might put in her head when she wants to get gussied up. By the way — and this may cause you to wonder what they’re feeding cats in Ferndale — Cygnus’ brother, Arcturus Aldebaran, holds the record for the tallest living domestic cat. He stands just over 19 inches tall.

A woman who lives in China attributes her nearly 5-inch eyelashes to communing with nature. You Jianxia says she had normal-length eyelashes when she went on an 18-month nature trip in 2013, and then they started growing (and growing and growing).

Benny Harlem has a “high top fade,” a variation of the flattop, but one that soars sky-high — well, 20-½ inches. The 26-year-old Los Angeles man told Guinness that styling his 'do can take a couple of hours.

Nicknamed “Skinnybones” as a youngster, 85-year-old Jim Arrington, of Venice, California, claimed the record for the world’s oldest bodybuilder. He began beefing up when he was 15 and has won 16 of the 62 bodybuilding competitions he has entered.
