George H.W. Bush 'Voting for Hillary,' Says JFK's Niece

A Kennedy says a Bush is voting for a Clinton, not a Trump.

Former President George H.W. Bush is voting for Hillary Clinton in November, according to a Facebook post from John F. Kennedy's niece.

The post by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend — the former lieutenant governor of Maryland and daughter of Robert F. Kennedy — outed Bush, who intended to stay publicly silent on this year's election.

On Monday, Townsend posted a picture on her Facebook page shaking hands with the former president and the caption: "The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!"

Bush, who is 92, has neither confirmed nor denied what he told Townsend. However, a spokesman for Bush released a statement saying that the former president is not commenting on the matter: "The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in 50 days. He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim."

For her part, Townsend said she met the president in Maine earlier on Monday, and he told her he was voting for Clinton in November, confirming to Politico, "That’s what he said."

George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush have stayed clear of the political scene during this election cycle, save for a few brief appearances to support their son Jeb's unsuccessful bid for the Republican nomination. None of the most prominent members of the Bush family attended the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

In May, both former presidents Bush made clear that they would not endorse Donald Trump. And in February, Barbara Bush, referring to Trump, said she was "sick of him."

"He doesn't give many answers to how he would solve problems. He sort of makes faces and says insulting things," Barbara Bush said about Trump. "He's said terrible things about women, terrible things about the military. I don't understand why people are for him, for that reason."

"I'm a woman," she added. "I'm not crazy about what he says about women."

Naturally, Trump had to respond on Twitter.
