Mars Unveils New Caramel-Flavored M&M's
The new candies will become a permanent part of the M&M's brand.
It hasn't been long since the return of crispy M&M's, and on Tuesday, Mars, the parent company of the popular candy, announced the launch of a new flavor: caramel M&M's.
In an announcement, the company said the new candies will have a smooth caramel center covered in milk chocolate and coated in a colorful candy shell, much like other iterations of M&M's. If you're drooling already, you'll have to wait since the new flavor doesn't hit shelves until May 2017.
The company said it was able to enter the "soft and chewy category partition" after years of development. Just how long? A Mars spokesperson told Business Insider the company spent a little over two years developing the caramel M&M.

“Chocolate and caramel is such a popular flavor combination, especially with the fans of M&M’S,” Tanya Berman, brand director, M&M’S Brand said in a press release. “In our research, our fans were enthusiastic at the possibility of a Caramel variant and we can’t wait for them to try the perfect balance of soft caramel and delicious M&M’S chocolate this spring.”
The candy will be packaged in a bright blue bag. Mars described the new flavor as the biggest launch in M&M's brand history, and it will be a permanent fixture in the candy's portfolio, joining peanut, milk chocolate and peanut butter M&M's.
