'Not My Presidents Day' Protesters Oppose Trump In Monday Rallies

Thousands turned out in cities and communities across the country to protest the 45th president of the United States.

Residents in cities and communities across the country geared up on Presidents Day to once again protest the 45th president, Donald Trump.

Protesters took part in so-called "Not My Presidents Day" rallies in major metropolitan areas and in small communities. In the president's home city of New York, the rally started at noon outside Trump International Hotel. On Sunday, New Yorkers participated in the "I Am A Muslim Too" rally in Times Square to show their solidarity with the Muslim community in the country.

The "Not My Presidents Day" Facebook page listed rallies taking place in New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Austin and San Diego. Rallies were also taking place in smaller communities like Ann Arbor, Michigan; Greensboro, North Carolina; Rapid City, South Dakota; and Indianapolis.

Organizers for Monday's rallies asked protesters to tweet with the hashtags #notmypresident and #doyourjob at 2 p.m. Eastern time.


The president's first month in office has been marked with intense backlash to his policies and his Cabinet appointees. After widespread news reports of internal dysfunction in the White House, Trump took to this Twitter feed to lash out at the media, calling them the "enemy of the American people." In just the first month of his presidency, Trump's national security adviser Retired Gen. Michael Flynn resigned from the post after it was revealed that he had discussed sanctions with the Russian ambassador during the election and had misled White House officials on the communications.

Sporadic and planned protests have become a regular tool for those who oppose Trump to speak out against his actions. Recently, protesters held rallies and vigils in support of undocumented immigrants after it was revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement was rounding up people subject to deportations.
