The weekend winter storm affected major cities including Philadelphia, New York and Boston, blasting the region with blizzard conditions.

BOSTON, MA — Millions of people in 10 states along the country's northeast coast hunkered down Saturday as a brutal nor'easter brought feet of snow to some areas and blasted the region with strong winds and blizzard conditions.

The winter storm affected major cities including Philadelphia, New York and Boston. More than a foot of snow had fallen on parts of New Jersey's shore and eastern Long Island by late morning as coastal flooding and widespread power outages threatened other areas.

Across the region, residents avoided travel at the behest of government leaders, who warned of whiteout conditions. Flights were canceled and airports shut down. Businesses closed or opened late.
