WAUKESHA, WI — An 18-year-old Waukesha woman has been charged in court after authorities say she's the person responsible for stabbing a 59-year old Illinois man Monday morning in a Waukesha County gas station.

Ashlyn Wieczorkowski has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and is currently being held in the Waukesha County Jail on a $750,000 cash bond. The charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to a criminal complaint filed this week by prosecutors in Waukesha County, authorities responded to the North Star Shell gas station at 9:15 a.m. Monday in Mukwonago on a report of a stabbing.

Authorities say a delivery driver working for ACE Hardware stopped at the gas station to get a soda. Investigators say Wieczorkowski took a 12-inch kitchen knife from home, walked four miles to the gas station and hid behind an aisle waiting to attack a random victim.

According to the criminal complaint, Wieczorkowski jumped out from the aisle, and plunged the knife into the delivery driver's chest without so much as a word. The man, stunned by the incident, was stabbed in his left hand before escaping further harm as he ran out to the parking lot. He was later transported to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa for treatment. Authorities said Wieczorkowski then crouched down behind a coffee counter inside the gas station and was quickly arrested by police.

Following her arrest, Wieczorkowski told authorities that she had been initially excited about stabbing her random victim, but then questioned herself, saying, "what have I done?"

When investigators questioned her about the stabbing, she reportedly told officers that her intent was to kill the person she stabbed, the criminal complaint stated.

According to the criminal complaint, she admitted to having suicidal ideations in the past, but that those thoughts turned toward harming others.

Wieczorkowski is due next in court on July 26, according to court documents.
