Samsung to Temporarily Halt Production of Galaxy Note 7: Report

The move comes after reports of problems with replacement phones.

Samsung is temporarily halting the production of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the Wall Street Journal and CNBC are reporting.

South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported the news, citing an unnamed source. Samsung has not officially issued a statement on the matter.

The phones were recalled in September by Samsung when some of the devices caught on fire. At the time, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said the phones posed a serious burn hazard. Major carriers provided customers in the United States options to replace the phones if they had purchased them.

On Sunday, AT&T announced it would no longer be replacing the recalled Note 7s with replacement devices based on recent customer reports and ongoing investigations by Samsung. T-Mobile said it would be suspending all sales of the new devices as well as exchanges for the replacement Note 7 devices.

Since the recall was initiated, there have been problems reported with the replacement devices. In one instance, a consumer said his replacement device caught on fire on a plane that was traveling from Louisville, Kentucky, to Baltimore. All passengers were evacuated and no injuries were reported. The CPSC said it had opened an investigation into the issue.
