The Speaker Wars Release “It Ain’t Easy” All About Aging
The Speaker Wars -featuring Stan Lynch (Of The Heartbreakers) Andy Timmons, and Jon Christopher Davis

The Speaker Wars is the Rock band formed by Stan Lynch, founding drummer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Texas singer-songwriter, Jon Christopher Davis (aka JCD). They are joined by their friend Andy Timmons, a world renowned guitarist, and many more to create their unmistakable classic contemporary rock sound.
“‘It Ain’t Easy’ is about how confronting it feels to get older and everything you once thought you were is starting to fade. It’s about finding a renewed sense of purpose and aging gracefully,” shares JCD. “Stan and I wrote it after a long conversation about what it means to get older, especially as lifelong musicians, I think it speaks to the confrontation of aging in any industry.”
It’s a rock song, reminiscent of Pink Floyd meets The Eagles, with classic guitar riffs and hints of electronic experimentation in the opening keyboard, provided by the great Jay Brown.
This single was recorded in Gainesville, Florida and McKinney, Texas during the pandemic. Stan is on drums and lead guitar harmonies and wrote a lot of the lyrics. Jon penned the music and hook, played electric guitar, bass, percussion, and sings lead. The song is high energy the whole way through, yet grounded. Each word evokes depth, catharsis, and meaning. The music is like a choreographed dance around Jon’s voice, working with him to create a sound so smooth it’s almost like they wrote it in one go, in the same room and not miles apart.
More About The Speaker Wars
In Nashville, 2001, Stan and Jon met trying to understand the new music industry, for it no longer resembled anything they were familiar with. They wanted to know what became of the music they knew and grew up listening to. JCD was enduring his third major label deal and his producer was yet undecided. He asked Stan, who co-produced several Don Henley records, to produce and Lynch gladly came on board.
After being told by the “powers that be” that they would be recording a collection of shabby tunes, written by a slew of outside writers, Stan countered… "Why are we recording these crap songs, he’s got good ones of his own?" Naturally, they were both swiftly fired, but from the ashes arose The Speaker Wars. No committee, just two guys making music they want to hear coming out of their speakers on their own terms, time and dime.
