Police are searching for a gunman after two people were shot in the parking lot of a Sheetz convenience store on Easter Sunday, authorities said. The Prince George County Police Department said two males were shot; one victim was critically injured.
VA Firefighter Collapses, Dies Fighting Wildfire
A Virginia Department of Forestry firefighter for 25 years died Easter Sunday while fighting a 3-acre fire in Scott County, authorities said. The part-time firefighter was identified as James C. Ward, who collapsed while fighting a blaze in Scott County.

Dead Atlantic Right Whale Found Floating Off VA Coast
The body of a female Right whale was discovered off the coast of Virginia, marking the 40th death in an unusual mortality event affecting North Atlantic right whales. According to NOAA Fisheries, the whale's carcass was found Saturday floating offshore about 50 miles east of Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia Beach. Officials said the whale was a mother from the 2024 calving season who had given birth to her sixth calf this winter.
