FCPS Continues Substitute Teaching Hiring For Federal Workers

The school district announced a third hiring event after hundreds showed up to the other events.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA—After hundreds of applicants showed up to Fairfax County Public Schoolshiring events for furloughed federal workers, the school district will hold a third hiring event Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the FCPS Administration Center, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Falls Church.

The hiring events for substitute teaching positions are specifically for furloughed federal government employees.

"Approximately 350 furloughed employees attended our first two hiring events, and we recognized the need to add a third event to show our support for our neighbors who—in many cases—are parents of FCPS students," said school board Chair Karen Corbett Sanders in a statement. "We always have a need for substitute teachers; on average, we hire 900 to 1,100 subs every day."
