Arlington Coronavirus Update: 18 More Cases, No New Deaths
Virginia Health Department reported twice the number of new COVID-19 cases in Arlington as reported the day before.
ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported no new deaths due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, Thursday in the Arlington Health District. The total of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District remains at 141.
VDH officials reported 18 new coronavirus cases Thursday, which is double the nine new cases reported on Wednesday. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 3,587.
To date, there have been 470 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in Arlington.

As of Thursday, there have been 123,668 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 2,652 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 9,741 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
VDH reported Thursday that 53,097 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 5.4 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 1,749,089 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 7.9 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

There have been 19 outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Thursday, with 568 cases related to an outbreak, with two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings. There have been 203 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.
Globally, more than 26 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 863,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 6.1 million people have been infected and over 185,000 people have died from COVID-19.

Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
