Arlington Coronavirus Update: 9 More Cases, 1 New Death
Virginia Health Department confirmed nine additional cases of the new coronavirus Wednesday in the Arlington Health District.
ARLINGTON, VA — Virginia Department of Health reported one new death due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, Wednesday in the Arlington Health District. The total of COVID-19-related deaths in the Arlington Health District now stands at 141.
VDH officials reported nine new coronavirus cases Wednesday, which is up from the five new cases reported on Tuesday. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 3,569.
To date, there have been 469 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in Arlington.

As of Wednesday, there have been 122,542 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 2,641 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 9,678 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
VDH reported Wednesday that 52,759 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 5.5 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 1,734,390 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 7.9 percent positivity rate, according to VDH.

There have been 19 coronavirus outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Wednesday, with 567 cases related to an outbreak. There have been 14 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings in Arlington. There have been 202 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health care workers.
On Tuesday, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam urged residents to continue practicing social distancing and the wearing of face coverings over the long Labor Day weekend in order to avoid the spikes in coronavirus cases that the state saw after the Memorial Day and July 4 holidays.
Globally, more than 25.8 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 858,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Wednesday morning. In the United States, more than 6 million people have been infected and over 184,000 people have died from COVID-19.

(VDH)Arlington residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
