Dulles Town Center Mall Sold For $46M: Report

Loudoun County's largest mall has a new owner who plans to renovate and revitalize the property, according to a report from the Commercial Observer. The report says Virginia Property Investments CEO Srinivas Chavali paid $46 million to purchase the Dulles Town Center mall from New York Life Insurance. Chavali also purchased an adjacent property that formerly hosted a Sears for $6 million, according to the report.

Strong Opposition To Casino On Silver Line, Fairfax County: Survey

Public sentiment to a casino being built in Fairfax County has remained mostly opposed to the idea since Patch first reported on Sept. 25 that Comstock Companies was planning to build one somewhere on the Silver Line outside the Capital Beltway. "The money that it would bring in will overshadow the safety challenges and challenges to the more vulnerable who may see this as a road to financial security when it can be a road to financial ruin," said one Fairfax County resident. "We accommodate growth and the benefits and challenges it brings. A casino is a leap too far."

Hawaiian Shaved Ice Business Ready To Make Waves In Del Ray

After a successful preview during the Bands & Brews event over the summer, a Hawaiian shaved ice business is planning to return to Del Ray. Owner Jaafar Ouardi will bring Le Petit Ananas Shaved Ice, a Hawaiian shaved ice trailer, to 2307 Mt. Vernon Avenue next to Bagel Uprising. Ouardi told Patch the business aims to open in March or April 2024, depending on weather.

New Hilton Hotel, Speakeasy Planned For Manassas Development

A new Hilton hotel is coming to Manassas, complete with its own speakeasy, wine bar, and café. The facility is scheduled to open in mid-2025 at the Farm Brew LIVE mixed-use campus. The hotel is being built through a partnership between Holladay Properties and Villagio Hospitality Group.

Historic Tavern Sold To Nonprofit For $600K By Loudoun Government

Loudoun County supervisors agreed to sell a county-owned historic tavern and 6-acre property in Aldie to the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC). The conservation nonprofit will pay $600,000 for the historic property, which is known as the Aldie Assemblage. As part of the agreement, the Loudoun County fire department will continue leasing a garage on the property to store swift water rescue equipment. The county will lease the space at no cost until the new Aldie fire station is built.

First Step To Move Wizards, Capitals To Alexandria Approved

A proposal to relocate the Washington Capitals and Wizards from D.C. to a new entertainment district in Alexandria's Potomac Yard was officially released by Virginia's governor and developers. Gov. Glenn Youngkin was in Potomac Yard this month to announce the $2 billion entertainment district project with the teams' owner Monumental Sports & Entertainment, developer JBG Smith and City of Alexandria officials. The proposed entertainment district would be subject to approval by the Virginia General Assembly and the City of Alexandria.
