UPDATE: Police Investigating Tuesday Night Shooting in Alexandria

An alert was sent out by police a little after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

UPDATE Wednesday afternoon:

The Alexandria Police Department announced that the ”felonious assault” Tuesday night on Duke Street was a shooting.

At approximately 8:26 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots heard in the 4200 block of Duke Street, according to police.

As officers investigated the initial report, they were notified that a 53 year-old man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand, police said. The victim had driven himself to the hospital, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.

No information or description about a suspect or suspects was given by police.

Alexandria Police were investigating a “felonious assault” Tuesday night in Alexandria, according to an alert sent out at about 9:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the incident took place in the 4100 block of Duke Street; the area is near a Mobil Gas station at 4109 Duke St.

Police did not release any other details Tuesday night. According to Black’s Law dictionary, an felonious assault is “a major attack on someone.” The police department has reported previous shootings and stabbings as felonious assaults.
