Campaign to Eradicate Poverty
The Borgen Project brings awareness for global poverty and hunger.
The Borgen Project brings awareness for global poverty and hunger. By advocating to meet with U.S. Congressional leaders, mobilizing people around the globe to make an effort, and educating the people to communicate with their government, The Borgen Project works towards establishing poverty as a priority of U.S foreign policy.
When it comes to helping the world’s poor, the U.S. does not do enough. With millions of people suffering from poverty all around the globe, the United States’ has a prominent role in addressing global hunger. Despite the actions of President Obama’s Feed the Future Program to improve nutrition and food security in developing nations, The Center for Global Development ranked the United States 21 out of 27 developed countries in the area of providing overall foreign aid.
By addressing global poverty, the economy improves due to the increase of new markets for U.S. companies. As many people transition out of poverty with the help of foreign aid, those individuals become consumers of United States products. The United States had previously provided foreign aid to nearly all of their top trading partners. Additionally in developing countries, millions of low income families send their children to schools that are exposed to violent extremism, offer a limited education, and glorify violence in the curriculum. Addressing global poverty improve national security as developing countries can educate their people and create a safe environment for students to learn, thus reducing the dependence on terrorist groups as a form of security.
In 2018, 4.5 million people visited borgenproject.org, 774 meetings were held with Members of Congress, and 839 cities had Borgen Project volunteers. The Borgen Project has become the voice for those born into extreme poverty.
