Celebrate National Volunteer Week with Free Lunch and Learn
GMU Senior Health Specialist to speak at Senior Volunteerism Event
To celebrate National Volunteer Week, “The importance of Volunteerism in Retirement” will be the title of a talk delivered by George Mason assistant professor Dr. Patrice Winter, PT, DPT, MHA, FAAOMPT, at noon, Friday, April 20, during an RSVP Northern Virginia Virginia Lunch and Learn at the Providence Community Center in Fairfax, held to celebrate National Volunteer Week. The free event, which also includes a free healthy lunch, is open to all of those who are 55-years-young and better. RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is the region’s largest volunteer group for seniors, offering more than 200 meaningful volunteer opportunities in the region. RSVP volunteers enjoy flexible schedules, free accident and liability insurance while serving, optional mileage and meal reimbursement and are invited to volunteer group projects and social gatherings
Winter, an assistant professor in GMU’s Department of Global and Community Health, teaches health- related curriculum with an emphasis in public health, healthy living and aging well. She sits on the Fairfax County Health and Human Services Council.

The Providence Community Center is located at 3001 Vaden Drive in Fairfax, near the Vienna Metro Station. Ample free parking is available. Winter’s talk is made possible by the Mason Speakers Bureau, part of George Mason University’s Office of Community and Local Government Relations.
