Cops to Motorists: Keep Intersections Clear

Fairfax City police announce campaign to enforce traffic ordinance.

The City of Fairfax Police will focus on enforcing city traffic code 98-10, “Blocking Intersections,” for the next several weeks in an attempt to decrease traffic violations in Old Town Fairfax in the area of Route 123 and Main Street.

City ordinance 98-10 is defined as follows: “No operator of a vehicle shall enter an intersection or a marked crosswalk unless there is sufficient space beyond such intersection or crosswalk in the direction in which such vehicle is proceeding to accommodate the vehicle without obstructing the passage of other vehicles or pedestrians, notwithstanding any traffic control signal indication to proceed.”
