Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation Promotes STEM Learning with Fairfax Futures
Grant provided STEM kits with books & interactive materials to early childhood educators

Fairfax Futures, a nonprofit organization that fosters collaboration in support of early childhood education and school readiness for young children in Fairfax County, recently received a grant of $10,000 from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation. Funds were allocated to provide interactive STEM learning kits to graduates of the first Fairfax Futures STEM Ready Cohort. In each session over a nine-week period, educators worked with staff of the Fairfax County Office for Children’s Institute for Early Learning on integrating STEM concepts and experiences into their early childhood programs. Using online tools provided by the Teaching Channel, educators uploaded videos between classes to demonstrate the ways they implemented the strategies with children. The STEM kits from Dominion Energy contained developmentally appropriate books, building materials and magnification stations that can be used to encourage a preschooler’s natural curiosity to explore their environment and their world.
