FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax City Economic Development Office is planning to install a mural on the back of the Big Buns restaurant in the Point 50 shopping center.

Megan DuBois, the cultural arts manager with Fairfax City Parks & Recreation, will be presenting an EDO proposal to the Board of Architectural Review during a public hearing at 7 p.m., on Wednesday.

The proposal calls for the installation of a 34 foot by 18 foot mural on the rear of the restaurant, which is located at 10392 Fairfax Blvd. The mural will be painted on the existing concrete masonry and will include an anti-graffiti coating.

"The final design is being created by Mason Alum Alecsis Mae Pillar," DuBois told Patch, in an email. "Her idea was selected from a call put out by Murals at Mason for a mural that was a map of Fairfax."

Funding for the mural comes from an ARPA Tourism Grant EDO received from the Virginia Tourism Corporation, according to DuBois.

The City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts has final approval on the design of the mural. If BAR approves the proposal on Wednesday, the commission's Public Art Committee will meet next week to vote on the final design.

If the committee approves the design, the mural will be installed at the end of October through November, depending on the weather, according to DuBois.

Big Buns opened its Fairfax City location on Aug. 3 and held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 15.
