Fairfax Passes 20K Coronavirus Mark With 120 New Positive Cases
The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,242 new coronavirus cases on Friday, up from the 1,101 new cases reported Thursday.
VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,242 new coronavirus cases on Friday, up from the 1,101 new cases reported Thursday. Cumulative case totals are at 138,702 cases, 2,949 deaths and 10,520 hospitalizations.
Fairfax County reported 120 new cases on Friday, increasing its total number of positive coronavirus cases to 20,041. Among all jurisdictions in the state, Prince William County reported 83 new coronavirus cases Friday, the second most behind Fairfax County.
Statewide, there have been 1,831,623 PCR tests completed, up 9,611 from Thursday. The 7-day moving average of positive PCR tests fell below 7 percent as of Sept. 12. The latest rate was 6.6 percent on Sept. 14.

The 1,242 new cases on Friday included 309 in the northern region, 293 in the southwest region, 247 in the northwest region, 224 in the eastern region, and 169 in the central region. Statewide, the 7-day average of new cases is 1,009 as of Friday.
COVID-19 hospitalizations stand at 945 statewide as of Friday. The 7-day average for hospitalization in the state is 999. According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, there were 102 COVID-19 patients on ventilators and 212 in the intensive care units as of Friday.

The 945 hospitalizations include 236 in the central region, 235 in the eastern region, 217 in the northern region, 166 in the southwest region and 91 in the northwest region.
Ventilator use among all Virginia hospital patients is at 19 percent, while ICU occupancy is at 78 percent. The average ICU occupancy was 67 percent in 2019. One hospital is reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.

- Alexandria: 3,671 cases, 308 hospitalizations, 67 deaths; increase of 22 cases, two hospitalizations and one death
- Arlington County: 3,819 cases, 491 hospitalizations, 146 deaths; increase of 28 cases
- Fairfax County: 20,041 cases, 2,121 hospitalizations, 574 deaths; increase of 120 cases and one death; two hospitalizations removed
- Fairfax City: 133 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes
- Falls Church: 68 cases, 12 hospitalizations, six deaths; increase of two cases and two hospitalizations
- Loudoun County: 6,615 cases, 425 hospitalizations, 122 deaths; increase of 48 cases, five hospitalizations, and two deaths
- Manassas: 1,877 cases, 128 hospitalizations, 25 deaths; increase of three cases, one hospitalization and one death
- Manassas Park: 603 cases, 54 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of four cases; one hospitalization and one death removed
- Prince William County: 11,966 cases, 895 hospitalizations, 196 deaths; increase of 83 cases and one hospitalization
- Fredericksburg: 524 cases, 49 hospitalizations, five deaths; increase of one case
- Spotsylvania County: 2,067 cases, 131 hospitalizations, 42 deaths; increase of seven cases and one hospitalization
- Stafford County: 1,915 cases, 151 hospitalizations, 14 deaths; increase of 11 cases, one hospitalization and one death
