The Many Benefits of Accepting Refugees

An article describing the benefits of the US accepting more refugees

The refugee and internally displaced crisis are critical to all American citizens. America has repeatedly let in fewer and fewer refugees every year, even though refugees benefit everybody. The stereotype that refugees are dangerous and take away opportunity from American citizens has put tens of thousands of innocent people's lives at risk.
The biggest threat to refugees finding safe housing is false narratives. While many Americans believe refugees are dangerous to national security, the truth is that refugees are the most heavily vetted individuals entering the United States. This fact means that refugees pose less of a threat than tourists. Refugees may also be falsely accused of being a burden to the United States economy because they may be poor, but in reality, refugees' economic situation stems from them being born into extremely difficult economic situations. Although refugees may have little when they enter, this is not indicative of their work ethic. On average, refugees contribute much more to the US economy than they take. This fact emphasizes that everybody benefits from refugees. Not only are lives saved from being granted safe asylum, but the US economy is bolstered when people who have never been given an opportunity finally get their chance to live the life they wanted to. The refugee process is extremely difficult and time consuming, and those who can complete the process exemplify their commitment and determination to work hard to achieve their goals.
Anti-refugee rhetoric puts innocent peoples' lives at risk and prevents the US economy from reaching its full potential by shunning people with different backgrounds, different ideas, and some of the strongest determination to live a normal life known to humans.
One of the most important things US citizens can do to help refugees is to spread awareness regarding the facts about refugees. In many cases, the refugee crisis has been misconstrued into a topic of fear. Some Americans see this issue as one that would influence their daily life, and that refugees take opportunities away from American citizens. However, the reality is that refugees are so thoroughly vetted by the government that they pose less of a threat to Americans' safety than tourists or even other Americans. Refugees also do not take opportunities away from Americans, but rather help the economy grow which in turn provides more opportunities. Refugees also help more directly by starting businesses, which requires employees. Refugees may also come from different backgrounds than the typical US citizen, which allows them to see opportunities or situations from a unique perspective. Allowing refugees into the US improves the economy, but more importantly it saves peoples' lives and gives them a chance they never had.
