Read a Movie, Watch a Book

Some of the best movies are based on books. Check out our list of book-based movies to be released this year and get a copy of the book from the library before the movie is released.

If you’ve seen the movie “The Hunger Games,” you may know that it was based on a book of the same title by Suzanne Collins. At the library, we’ve seen a lot of interest in the book, even more so after the film version came out in March.

Books have long been source material for movie screenplays. This year, six of the nine films nominated in the Best Picture category of the Academy Awards were based on books.

If you’re someone who likes to read a book before seeing the movie, and you’d like to avoid the wait lists that will inevitably build as the films get closer to their release dates, check out this selection of book-based movies that are scheduled for release later this year. Clicking on the titles will take you to the library’s catalog, where you can see availability and place holds on titles if desired.
