Sherwood Regional Library 2.0: The Next Generation

What do you remember best from the library you used as a child? Growing up in the fifties, my local library was in the basement of a neighboring housing project. When we borrowed a book, the lady at the check-out desk used a pencil with a date stamp clamped on the eraser end to mark a card. She kept the card, marked with my library card number, and stamped the date on the pocket of my book. It's not like that anymore.

Computers have changed our lives so much over the years. Sherwood Library is hosting a series of talks about services the library offers that your childhood library never did. We decided on a series because these will be customer driven sessions with Denise Morgan, Branch Manager. Is your question "Where is the card catalog?" Maybe you want to know how to get information about repairing your car yourself, or recommendations for service stations in the neighborhood. There have been changes over the years to the ways libraries GET information, and SHARE information. What hasn't changed is our basic purpose of serving our communities by PROVIDING information and reading materials to our customers.

In earlier blog posts, we have talked about apps for iPhones, our online resources, and ebooks for electronic readers like the Nook. We appreciate the opportunity to "talk" with our neighbors here in these blog postings, and want to make the same opportunity available in person. We're calling these chats with Sherwood's branch manager Sherwood Regional Library 2.0. They are held on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. and the fourth Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the first floor meeting room. Give us a call to register, or just join us. We'll have a computer for demonstrating, and handouts so you can do things at home. Bring your questions ... and your memories. We may not be your father's library anymore, but we are eager to be yours!
