Car Crashes Into Gas Pump In Mount Vernon (Video)

A driver knocked over a gas pump at a Shell gas station in Mount Vernon, which ignited a fire.

MOUNT VERNON, VA—Firefighters were called to a Shell gas station in Mount Vernon Sunday when a car caught fire at the gas pump.

Fire officials say a driver accidently stepped on the gas when pulling into the station at the 8500 block of Richmond Highway. The collision knocked over the pump, and the car caught fire.

The driver escaped from the vehicle before first responders arrived.

No firefighters were injured, but the driver was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. Damages are approximately $50,000.
