HANOVER COUNTY, VA — A jury in Hanover County court convicted a Fairfax County music teacher for sex offenses against children Monday. The conviction for Ryan Thomas Pick, 41, of Woodbridge, included two counts of using a communication system to procure a minor for an unlawful act and one count of solicitation of a minor under the age of 15.

The jury recommended a seven-year prison sentence. Pick will be required to register as a sex offender in any jurisdiction in which he lives or works. He will be sentenced on Nov. 22.

The sheriff's office in Hanover County arrested Pick in August 2018. An undercover officer posed as a 12-year-old girl on the social networking site Omegle and was connected with Pick. According to the sheriff's office, Pick made sexual comments and sent a video of himself engaging in sexually explicit conduct. He also made statements about sex acts he wanted to do with the 12-year-old girl.

Officers obtained a warrant and searched Pick's Fairfax County residence last August. At that time, he admitted to using Omegle and chatting with the purported 12-year-old girl.

Pick taught music at Cameron Elementary School and was music director at Woodbridge's St. Paul United Methodist Church. Investigations revealed he was also a private music instructor and season pizza delivery driver.

FCPS suspended Pick without pay following the arrest. A FCPS spokesman told the Richmond Times-Dispatch the district can move forward with firing him and getting his teaching license revoked now that he's been convicted. St. Paul United Methodist Church's pastor previously told WTOP Pick was fired after his family informed the church of the charges.
