Last Chance to Comment on Recommendations on Future Fairfax County Bus Network

Got a suggestion to share with the county? Now is your chance.

Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is working to finalize the development of its Comprehensive Transit Plan (CTP), a 10-year aspirational plan for Fairfax Connector and Metrobus service within the County. The CTP builds on the County’s 2009 Transit Development Plan (TDP), the previous ten-year plan, and will extend the horizon year from 2020 to 2025.

To date, FCDOT has collected more than 250 comments from local stakeholders and bus operators on the future of the bus network, but there is still time to submit your comments! You can submit your comments through tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30, online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/connections2015.

The draft recommendations are available for review online and largely focus on improving the already robust bus network through:

  • Improvements to the frequency (how often a bus reaches a specific stop) and span of service (when the first bus and last bus run) for specific routes through recommendations such as additional midday or weekend service.
  • Expansion to new areas by rerouting existing buses to serve new destinations and in some cases streamlining routes to make them more efficient and faster for riders.
  • Establishment of new service types such as a new inter-county route; cross-county routes; and flex service.
