Leukemia Cup Regatta Sets Sail Sept. 12

Event takes place at Washington Sailing Marina in Alexandria.

The 22nd Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta will take place Saturday, Sept. 12 starting at 10 a.m. The Regatta will bring together local sailors in the fight against blood cancers and support LLS’s mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the lives of patients and their families. The sailors are racing for the events’ 2015 Honorary Skipper – Jack Keffer.

Just three months shy of his fourth birthday, Jack was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Over the last two and a half years, Jack has endured countless rounds of chemotherapy and medication, hospital stays and spinal tap procedures. Now, at age six, he has less than a year left in his treatment and while he continues to receive daily doses of chemotherapy, Jack is thriving. Thanks to life-saving treatments, Jack is able to live as part of the 90 percent who survive childhood leukemia.

Spectator boats will be available to the public for a closer view of the races for $10 per person (space is limited). Additionally, guests may purchase tickets for the post-race celebration, also $10 per person. To register for the events, or for more information visit www.leukemiacup.org/nca.
