Attempted Abduction In Belle Haven Was False Report: Police

Detectives determined the incident reported to police did not occur.

JAN. 23 UPDATE: A Detective investigation determined the attempted abduction of a child did not actually occur. The incident has been reclassified as a false report.

BELLE HAVEN, VA — A search for a suspect is underway after an attempted abduction of a child in the Belle Haven area Tuesday, according to Fairfax County Police.

Police believe the incident happened between 4:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the 6600 block of Fort Hunt Road. The victim, a Belle View Elementary School student, was walking on a sidewalk on Fort Hunt Road when a man approached and picked him or her up. The victim fought the man off, leading the suspect to flee from the area. The student went back to the school and notified administrators, who contacted police.

Police are asking for residents in the area of Fort Hunt Road and Belle View Boulevard to review home surveillance footage between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in case an image of the suspect was captured.

Anyone with information or surveillance images is asked to call Major Crimes Bureau detectives at 703-246-7800, option 6, or submit a tip through Crime Solvers.
