Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took the lead over Texas Rep. Ron Paul throughout the greater Fort Hunt area in Tuesday’s Republican primary election, winning in eight out of nine precincts.
The only outlier was Hybla Valley, where each candidate won exactly 50 percent of the vote with 32 votes each. Romney performed best in the Fort Hunt precinct, with 77 percent of the vote, Waynewood precinct with 75 percent and Marlan precinct with 72 percent.

Other than Hybla Valley, Paul had the best showing in the Bucknell precinct, with 47 percent of the vote and the Kirkside precinct with 37 percent.
In Fairfax County as a whole, accordng to final unofficial results, Romney carried a 30-point lead over Paul, winning with 65 percent of votes to Paul’s 35 percent.

In all, slightly more than 38,000 of almost 704,000 total registered voters in the county showed up at the polls, a turnout of 5.4 percent.
In the 2008 Republican presidential primary, Romney carried 5.7 percent of the 60,808 votes cast in Fairfax County. Ron Paul followed close behind, with 4.9 percent of the vote in the county as a whole.
In 2008 in the entire Mount Vernon District, voter turnout was 10.3 percent. Romney received more votes than Paul in the district during that election, winning 5 percent of the vote to Paul’s 4.4 percent.
