Smoke Alarms Help Family Escape Groveton Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reiterated the importance of working smoke alarms after all residents escaped safely.

GROVETON, VA—No injuries resulted from a house fire in Groveton early Friday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Units responded to the 2200 block of Shiver Drive around 1:40 a.m. Three people were home and safely escaped. The fire department says smoke alarms alerted the family to the fire.

Damage are estimated to be $500. The cause of the fire was an electrical event involving a sump pump motor.

The fire department says the incident is a reminder that working smoke alarms save lives. In a recent blog post, the fire department says firefighters often get questions about what kind of smoke alarm they need and where it should be placed.
