Update: Route 1 Reopened Following Gas Leak
All lanes of the busy commuter artery had been shut down this morning through Fort Belvoir, say Fairfax County officials.

Officials have reopened several miles of Richmond Highway (Route 1) through Fort Belvoir that were closed this morning after a gas line was struck.
The move prevents tremendous backups from snarling drivers in this evening's rush hour. On Wednesday morning, all lanes of Route 1 in both directions were shut down from Jeff Todd Way to Telegraph Road, according to Fairfax County officials.
The leak occurred Wednesday morning in a gas main at Shepherd Lane and Route 1 in Fort Belvoir. Radio station WTOP said that southbound drivers on Route 1 were detoured onto Jeff Todd Way and northbound drivers were detoured onto Telegraph Road.
