'It's just disruptive:' Hampton University temporarily housing some students in off-campus hotel (wtkr.com) — Hampton University is temporarily placing more than 30 students at the Embassy Suites in Hampton because record enrollment has outpaced dorm space, leaving some families scrambling just before move-in. Parents say late notice, shuttle logistics, and hotel security are major worries, while the university insists it's communicating proactively and will move students into on-campus housing as rooms open up.
   

2. RTA executive found dead after going missing on work trip: 'Tragic loss' (cleveland.com) — Hampton police say a visiting RTA executive who went missing near Jonquil Lane was later found dead on Fox Hill Road, with no signs of foul play reported so far. The longtime transit leader, Floun'say Caver, had been in Hampton on a work trip when he disappeared, prompting a statewide alert and concern from colleagues before authorities confirmed his death.
   

3. Assistant state medical examiner fired over false certification letter; some murders she testified in being questioned (pilotonline.com) — Some Hampton Roads murder convictions — including at least one in Hampton — are under scrutiny after an assistant state medical examiner was fired for submitting an inauthentic forensic board certification letter. Defense attorneys are now challenging autopsy evidence and expert testimony in multiple cases, while state health officials tighten how they verify medical credentials going forward.
   

4. NASA Competition Asks Students to Imagine Lunar Future (meritalk.com) — NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton is helping lead a nationwide student competition to design technologies for long-term exploration near the Moon's South Pole. College teams can submit concepts this academic year, with selected finalists receiving funding and feedback from NASA and industry experts as they refine their ideas for a 2027 forum.
   

5. West Nile virus detected in Virginia Beach (13newsnow.com) — Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been found in several Virginia Beach neighborhoods, adding to recent positive tests in Suffolk and at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton. Health officials urge residents to use repellent, wear long clothing, avoid peak mosquito hours, and eliminate standing water around homes to reduce risk, especially for older adults or those with health issues.
