1 Driver Killed In 3-Vehicle Beltway Crash: State Police

State police say a driver was trying to pass on the right shoulder when the vehicle struck two other vehicles.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A three-vehicle crash on the Capital Beltway led to one fatality Monday evening, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday on eastbound Interstate 495 west of Telegraph Road. State police say a Honda driver swerved off the right side of the road and rear-ended a 2012 Acura MDX. The Honda then struck a flatbed wrecker legally stopped on the right shoulder.

The driver was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he died of his injuries. He was identified as Andrej Kolacevski, 39. Police say he was wearing a seatbelt.

The Acura driver was not injured, and the operator of the wrecker was treated on scene for minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
