1 Person Injured, Dog Dies In Springfield House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue revived two dogs and found the third dead in the home.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—One person was injured and a dog died in a house fire Thursday, Dec. 13 in Springfield, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Units responded to the house fire in the 6000 block of Flanders Street around 9:22 a.m. Firefighters found smoke showing from the single family home, quickly located the fire and extinguished it.

The fire department says one resident was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Crews searched the home and found two dogs, which were revived. The third dog was found dead in the home. No firefighters were injured.

Investigators say the fire had been caused by an overloaded extension cord in a bedroom. Damages are estimated to be $30,000. Two residents have been displaced but declined Red Cross assistance.
