35 People Displaced From Springfield 2-Alarm Fire
The 35 residents safely evacuated when a resident discovered the fire in his apartment.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—Fairfax County Fire and Rescue say 35 people were displaced after an apartment fire Friday, March 15 in Springfield. All residents evacuated, and there were no injuries.
Around 7:20 a.m., units responded to the 7000 block of Rhoden Court and found a fire in a top floor apartment. The fire extended into the attic, and a second alarm was requested. City of Alexandria firefighters assisted on scene, and the fire was contained to the original apartment and attic.
The 35 residents were in the building when the fire broke out. One resident discovered smoke near his apartment door and heard a smoke alarm returning home. He alerted the other residents by pulling the fire alarm.

Fire investigators determined an electrical event in a teapot that ignited combustibles started the blaze. Damages are estimated to be $181,250.
The displaced residents have accepted Red Cross assistance.
