Arrest Made In Springfield Thanksgiving Shooting

The juvenile fled to North Carolina after the shooting, according to Fairfax County Police.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — A juvenile was arrested after a fatal Thanksgiving shooting in Springfield, according to Fairfax County Police.

Detectives worked to identify the suspect after a man was fatally shot in the 6100 block of Dinwiddie Street. Upon identifying a 17-year-old as the suspect, investigations found the juvenile had fled to North Carolina. The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office in western North Carolina assisted with taking the suspect into custody. The suspect was held by the sheriff's office pending extradition to Fairfax County. Police obtained felony petitions for murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony against the juvenile.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots around 1:12 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28. The victim was found with upper body trauma and died at the hospital. He was identified as Ever Deras-Borjas, 30, of Springfield.
