Bike to Work Day to Offer Freebies Near Kingstowne

Locations around the Kingstowne and D.C. area will have food, drinks and giveaways for Bike to Work Day participants.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Ready to ditch the congested roads or Metro for your bicycle? On Friday there will be all the more reason to.

Bike to Work Day is Friday, and over 85 locations around the D.C. region will offer pit stops on the way to work. It's an annual event, coordinated regionally by Washington Area Bicyclist Association and Commuter Connections, celebrating bikers at all experience levels.

The first 16,000 registrants receive free T-shirts, and everyone can enjoy food, drinks and a chance to win prizes. Select stops will offer entertainment, activities and speakers. The event will happen rain or shine, but pit stop managers will contact you in cases of extreme weather. When registering, you can enter a giveaway for a $1,000 bicycle rack giveaway at your workplace.

If you're a first time rider and don't want to go it alone, you can link up with a convoy or find a ride buddy.

  • Franconia-Springfield/Metro Park at Walker Lane, Franconia: 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • Market Square at Alexandria City Hall, 301 King Street, Alexandria: 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • John Carlyle Square Park, 300 John Carlyle St., Alexandria: 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • Colasanto Park, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria: 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Mark Center – North Parking Garage, Across from 4825 Mark Center Dr., Alexandria: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Fort Belvoir, Mt Vernon Memorial Hwy & Mt Vernon Road (before front gate): 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Collingwood Park, West Blvd. near Chadwick Ave. Alexandria (off Mount Vernon Trail): 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • Shirlington Library, 4200 Campbell Avenue, Arlington: 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • New District Brewing Company: 2709 S Oakland St, Arlington: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Oxon Hill/National Harbor: off the trail approaching Maryland side of Woodrow Wilson Bridge, Oxon Hill, Md.: 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
