Bystander Helps Arrest Unruly Shoplifter In Springfield: Police

One officer was hospitalized with minor injuries after the struggle, police say.

SPRINGFIELD, VA—Fairfax County Police say a man bit and fought with officers before a bystander helped arrest him in Springfield Friday, Feb. 8.

The arrest stemmed from a shoplifting report called in around 7:26 p.m. at Springfield Town Center. JC Penney's employees said the man took large amounts of merchandise into the fitting room.

Responding officers say the man walk to his vehicle and take out stolen merchandise from his clothing. Police say he kicked the officers and bit one on the arm and face when they tried to arrest him. A bystander helped police get him into custody.

Jeremy Delvalle, 28, of Woodbridge was charged with assault on law enforcement, obstruction with force, petit larceny and possession of marijuana.

One of the officers was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
