Car Fire In Springfield Repair Shop Extinguished Without Injury

The two-alarm fire broke out when workers were in the repair garage, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — No one was injured when a two-alarm fire broke out at a repair shop in Springfield Wednesday afternoon.

Around 4:27 p.m., Fairfax County firefighters responded to the 7800 block of Loisdale Road to find smoke visible from roll-up doors. A second alarm brought in Fort Belvoir Fire and Emergency Services as well as additional Fairfax County units. Three workers in the repair shop and about nine people from other businesses in the building evacuated safely.

Crews found the fire in a vehicle on an auto lift. A fire sprinkler had activated and kept the fire under control until firefighters could put it out.

Fire investigators determined the cause was heat transfer from an operating torch to the buildup of grease or tar. The fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damages.
