The Tex-Mex restaurant will celebrate the big day at both Northern Virginia Chuy’s locations in Fairfax, at 11219 Lee Highway, and Springfield, at 6793 Springfield Town Center.
“We are always excited to celebrate Elvis’ birthday. He has been with us since the first Chuy’s opened in Austin in 1982,” said John Korman, director of Operations for Chuy’s, in a news release about the celebration. “Every Chuy’s has a shrine to Elvis, and we’ve even named a few menu items after him. People know us for our quirky qualities, and this birthday is the perfect opportunity to showcase that.”

Chuy’s guests who stop by either Northern Virginia location on Friday dressed as Elvis (or his better half Priscilla) will receive a free entrée. Also to commemorate “The King’s” 81st birthday, Chuy’s will offer $1 off the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken and Elvis Presley Memorial Combo to all customers.
The fun doesn’t stop there: Customers will receive free Twinkies® (while supplies last), and Chuy’s will give away a special souvenir cup with the purchase of a margarita. Signature Blue Hawaiians and limited edition Elvis T-shirts will also be available for purchase.
Chuy’s Elvis obsession began when they opened their first restaurant in 1982 on Barton Springs Road in Austin, Texas. There was little money for restaurant décor, and Chuy’s founders hit the streets with $20 in search of something to put on the walls.
The over-sized velvet painting of Elvis they returned with changed the course of Chuy’s history forever. Soon, customers were donating their own memorabilia and Elvis was officially named the Patron Saint of Chuy’s.
They have been constructing shrines in his honor and celebrating his birthday ever since. Join Chuy’s as they ring in The King’s 81st birthday this year with lots of fun and fanfare, and remember – at Chuy’s, Elvis has never left the building.
