Fort Belvoir’s Survivor Outreach Services will host the first “Survivor Services Day” on Saturday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fort Belvoir Army Community Service, Bldg. 200, 9800 Belvoir Road. The day includes an open forum Q-and-A session;presentations by subject matter experts with information about legal issues, benefits, education and more. COL John Strycula, Fort Belvoir Commander, is featured guest. ID cards can be renewed on the spot, and, a continental breakfast and light lunch. Child care is available by pre-registering with ACS – call (703) 805-5487 or 4590.
A highlight of the day will be the issuing of the Survivor Outreach Services vehicle decal. Department of the Army is providing easier access to Fort Belvoir and other installations for survivors. The program is managed by partnership between the SOS andDirectorate of Emergency Services. So many survivors who live in the Fort Belvoir area do not have military ID or DOD vehicle decals for their cars. That means every time they come to Fort Belvoir for a survivor event or support group, they have to show a current driver’s license, insurance and registration. The SOS vehicle decal can help to overcome that. Survivors will be able to get a SOS decal at “Survivor Services Day.” Just bring along driver’s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance, and see the staff at the DES exhibit.
Information about SOS is available from Maria Rodriquez, (703) 805- 5487.
