Flooding Streams Cause Closures Around Fairfax County: Police

Several roads are closed as creeks are at or near the highest stage of flooding.

Flooding caused several road closures around Fairfax County for part of Monday, police say.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department has responded to a number of calls of cars stuck in flooded areas. In one incident, the driver got trapped on the roof of a vehicle stuck in floodwaters at Woodburn Road and Spicewood Drive in Annandale. The fire department urges drivers to avoid roads that are flooded.

Fairfax County was under a flood warning through 11:45 a.m. Monday. National Weather Service says most streams were at or near the highest point in flooding around Fairfax County. Accotink Creek was above flood level in the Annandale area. Additional street flooding can be expected in the Alexandria area along the Potomac River late Monday morning.
