Giant Food To Replace Kmart In Springfield: Report

SPRINGFIELD, VA — The old Kmart at Springfield Plaza is set to become a Giant Food store.

Giant Food already has a location at Springfield Plaza but would have a larger space at the former Kmart, according to Washington Business Journal. The Kmart location closed in 2018 amid hundreds of Kmart and Sears closures when the retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Several more Sears closures in Virginia were recently announced.

Construction bid information indicates work could start in 2020.
