Kingstowne Area Primary Election: Jeff McKay, Rodney Lusk Win

Voters chose candidates for Board of Supervisors chairman and Lee District supervisor.

KINGSTOWNE, VA—Kingstowne area voters headed to the polls Tuesday, June 11 to decide candidates in key primary elections for state legislative and local seats in the Nov. 5 general election. Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay has won the Democratic primary for Board of Supervisors chairman in Fairfax County, while Rodney Lusk won the primary for Lee district supervisor. Steve Descano has defeated incumbent Ray Morrogh for Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney.

Although there were no primaries for state legislative seats in Kingstowne, all Virginia House of Delegates and Senate seats will be up for grabs in the November general election.

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova, a Democrat, did not seek reelection. The other Democratic candidates for chairman were real estate developer Tim Chapman, Fairfax County School Board member Ryan McElveen and Georgetown Law professor Alicia Pierhoples.

Since McKay ran chairman, the position of Lee District supervisor is open. Candidates in the Democratic primary were Larysa Kautz, a lawyer and disability rights advocate; Rodney Lusk, a longtime county employee and activist; James Migliaccio, a representative on the Fairfax County Planning Commission; and Kelly Hebron, a college professor, lawyer and activist. The Republican Party will determine Board of Supervisor candidates through means other than a primary.

Polls were open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Anyone in line at 7 p.m. was able to vote. Voters must be registered and present photo identification in order to cast a ballot. Voters who do not have photo ID could cast a provisional ballot.
