Man's Death In Fairfax County Jail Under Investigation

The inmate died about two weeks after arriving at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Fairfax County detectives are investigating the death of a 68-year-old inmate at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center Wednesday.

Around 11:27 a.m., the man was found unconscious in his cell. Sheriff's deputies and medical staff performed CPR but were unsuccessful in reviving him. He was pronounced deceased at around 11:49 a.m.

The man's name will be released pending notification to family. He had been incarcerated at the county jail since May 9.

The medical examiner will examine the body, but preliminary investigations show no signs of foul play. Fairfax County Police routinely investigate all Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office in-custody deaths.
