Mold On Soda Machine: Kingstowne Restaurant Violations

Health inspectors found black mold on a Dairy Queen soda machine and more at Kingstowne area restaurants.

KINGSTOWNE, VA -- Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations from recent inspections in late May. Among the violations was black mold found on a soda machine at Dairy Queen.

violations: bottles of cooking oil not labeled, wet wiping cloths stored on counter, improper cooling method for french fries, employees' personal items stored on food boxes, food prep area

China Garden Restaurant: 6426 Landsdowne Center Dr, Alexandria, VA 22315, last inspection: May 24

violations: wet wiping cloths stored on counter, General Tso chicken not properly cooled, garlic and oil mixture observed cold holding at improper temperature, dirty utensils, grime and debris buildups on gaskets of food prep coolers, fryers in need of cleaning, degreasing

Dairy Queen: 6446 Landsdowne Center Dr, Alexandria, VA 22310, last inspection: May 22

violations: manufacture containers reused to store utensils, Coke machine ice chute observed with black mold

Dickey's Barbecue Pit: 6451 Old Beulah St, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22315, last inspection: May 24

violation: exhaust hood in need of cleaning

El Rancho: 6959 Hechinger Drive, Springfield, VA 22151, last inspection: May 30

violations: no record of freezing for parasite destruction for fish, raw/undercooked food provided on menu without disclosure, dirty can opener, cookline equipment and coolers accumulated dust, food residue and other debris, floors, walls and ceilings in need of cleaning

Manchester Bagel: 7001-K Manchester Blvd, Alexandria, VA 22310, last inspection: May 30

violations: cream cheese cold holding at improper temperature, toxic cleaning materials not labeled, vitamins and medicines present on food prep counter

Morning Bagel & Bakery: 7578A Telegraph Road, Alexandria, VA 22315, last inspection: May 25

violations: employee did not wash hands before putting on gloves, dirty utensils used to make smoothies, ice chute and soda nozzles in need of cleaning, shelving with accumulations of grime and debris, floor in need of cleaning
