New Lane on I-395 North Now Open

Congestion relief between Duke Street and Seminary Road.

Motorists heading north on I-395 now have a new lane, between Duke Street and Seminary Road, as of Wednesday afternoon, according to VDOT.

This 0.8-mile auxiliary lane on I-395 connects the northbound on-ramp at Duke Street (Route 236) to the northbound off-ramp at Seminary Road and will ease congestion where motorists enter and exit I-395. It will also provide easier access to the Mark Center, according to VDOT.

The $20 million auxiliary lane is part of a larger project at Seminary Road and I-395 that includes a new I-395 high occupancy vehicle (HOV) ramp to Seminary and a new pedestrian bridge over I-395. The reversible HOV/transit ramp to Seminary is scheduled to open in late September 2015.
