Police Seek Extradition Of Springfield Man Accused Of Killing Wife
A Springfield man accused of killing his wife was traveling on I-85 in South Carolina when he was stopped and arrested by police on Monday.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — Fairfax County Police said a Springfield man wanted on a second-degree murder charge was driving on Interstate 85 in South Carolina Monday morning when he was stopped and arrested by police.
Police said they will seek to extradite Jose Heber Hernandez Mejia, 49, from South Carolina to Fairfax County.
Hernandez Mejia was wanted for the stabbing death of his wife, Evelin Molina, who was found dead from multiple stab wounds on Sunday in the upstairs bedroom of their home in the 5200 block of Rolling Road.

Police said that Molina lived at the home with Hernandez Mejia and their children. The children were not home at the time of the stabbing, police said.
A family member, who does not live at the home, received a call from Hernandez Mejia, who said he had stabbed Molina, according to police.

When the family member arrived at the home, Hernandez Mejia handed over his wallet and fled in a Honda HR-V, police said.
A knife believed to be used in the stabbing was found inside the bedroom, according to police. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact manner and cause of death.
Prior to Hernandez Mejia's arrest, Fairfax County Police detectives contacted officers from the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division asking for help in finding Hernandez Mejia. Deputies from Anderson County, South Carolina, and South Carolina police officers found Hernandez Mejia traveling on I-85 in Anderson County.
